Windows 7 Keyboard Shortcuts for XP and Gnome 2 Linux

Windows 7 has introduced a number of keyboard shortcuts, some that are more eye candy than anything else, but a few are genuinely useful. Among the more useful are the following:

Global Desktop Navigation  
Dock the window to the left side of the monitor Windows + ←
Dock the window to the right side of the monitor Windows + →
Maximize the active window Windows + ↑
Minimize the active window Windows + ↓
Minimize all windows but the currently active window Windows + Home
All windows are made temporarily transparent Windows + Space
Launches Internet Explorer Windows + 1

Windows and Gnome 2 Shortcut Keys

If you spend most of your working day in front of a computer it eventually makes sense for you to memorize key shortcuts and, ideally, using the key shortcuts become almost instinct as you start to use them without thinking .
